Safe Food Sampling at MN Farmers' Markets

The University of Minnesota Extension can offer a workshop in your area to train you on the specifics of this 2014 law, including examples of the approved handwashing station and worksheets to help you plan your food sampling and / or food demos at your farmers' markets.

Safe Food Sampling Law

MFMA's Safe Food Sampling bill was signed into law by Governor Dayton on April 10, 2014!

This law paves the way for safe food sampling at farmers' markets for all vendors and food demonstrations -- without any added licenses or fees. Additionally, it allows farmers with value-added food products to sample their food all year, instead of being limited to 21 days.

The MFMA has worked with
many partners, including the MN Dept. of Ag and the MN Dept. of Health to accomplish this. We are very appreciative for their advice and support.

Association at info@mfma.org.

Need an answer to a food license question?

The MFMA is working with the MN Dept. of Health and MN Dept. of Ag to revise statutes and rules to make them work better for today's farmers' markets and vendors. So if you have a question about the regulations governing Minnesota farmers' markets, email us at info@mfma.org or call us at (320) 250-5087 to get help. We will work with you to expedite the process and help you find your answers.
