Robbi Mixon, Director, Alaska Farmers Market Association
“Farmers’ Markets + CSAs + Food Hubs + Farm Stands”
The Alaska Farmers Market Association is just a few years old – but it’s on an impressive trajectory of bold and innovative growth. Robbi and her team will share the unique food security struggles they face with a 105-day growing season, tremendous transportation costs … and their commitment to thinking-outside-the-box for solutions.
Robbi wears several hats - all devoted to growing the local foodshed. She has spent the last decade working with producers in Homer AK, running the local farmers market, and launching the Alaska Food Hub. She joined the Alaska Food Policy Governing Board, hoping to represent the interests of farmers and fishers on the Kenai Peninsula. In January 2020, she accepted the role of first-ever AFPC Executive Director and is currently completing a Masters in Sustainable Food Systems at Prescott College.
Meghan Geary, Local Foods Coordinator, Alaska Farmers Market Association
Born and raised in Alaska, Meghan is passionate about local foods and strengthening our communities. While receiving a BA in English from the University of Alaska Fairbanks, she interned at the Division of Agriculture in their Alaska Grown marketing program. There she had the opportunity to gain experience in the agriculture system and make connections with the various sectors that come together to make fresh, healthy foods a reality for Alaskans. In her current position as Local Foods Coordinator for the Alaska Farmers Market Association, she continues to work toward a more sustainable and equitable food system through outreach, education, and resource development.
