Special Projects

Grow Your Green Farm Profitability (GYG-FP) is an initiative of MFMA, designed to help farmers better understand their farm finances, improve business decision-making, and achieve long-term profitability. Through practical tools, educational resources, and financial recordkeeping support, GYG-FP helps farmers identify what is working, evaluate enterprise performance, and build more resilient farm businesses.

By strengthening farm profitability, this MFMA project supports thriving farmers, vibrant farmers' markets, and stronger local food systems that nourish communities across Minnesota.

Grow Your Green – Access to Markets is an MFMA initiative designed to help emerging farmers build successful farm businesses by increasing access to education, market opportunities, and essential business resources. The program works to reduce barriers that can limit success while providing practical tools, training, and support to help farmers confidently navigate local food systems and connect with customers.

As part of this effort, MFMA offers a growing library of free educational videos on its YouTube channel, making valuable learning opportunities accessible to farmers across Minnesota.

The Market Price & Field Conditions Dashboard is an MFMA initiative designed to strengthen Minnesota's local food system through better data and informed decision-making. By collecting and analyzing pricing information from farmers' markets across the state, MFMA provides farmers, vendors, market managers, and community partners with valuable insights into market trends and product pricing. The dashboard helps support business planning, pricing strategies, and market development while building a long-term resource that benefits farmers and local food communities throughout Minnesota.

Data is collected from markets across all MFMA regions and serves as a growing tool to strengthen transparency, profitability, and resilience within Minnesota's local foodshed.

The Wifery Livestock Skills Consortium is an educational and skills training program to help livestock farmers increase the care to their livestock and poultry enterprises. The Wifery program combines a curriculum per species with a kit of essential equipment and supplies. Regardless of the health issue, all solutions are included, from certified organic to pharmaceutical. Each in-person session covers the material and hands-on practice with the equipment. There are four basic platforms:

  1. Basic Livestock Care: 'normal' livestock health per species is covered. Kit includes supplies needed for suturing wounds, splinting legs, giving shots (SQ, IM, IV, IP), taking blood samples, syringes, needles, etc.
  2. Parasite Management: ID the worm eggs in manure samples from participants' livestock, discuss management solutions. The Fecal Flotation Kit is used during the workshop and available for sale.
  3. Birthing & Babies: material covers health needs for both the mothers of each species as well as the babies. Kit includes tubing, ear tagging & tattooing, etc.
  4. Nutrition & Management.

The Minnesota Farmers’ Market Association (MFMA) provides services, programs, resources, and leadership that strengthen and promote farmers’ markets across Minnesota and Tribal Nations. We envision vibrant, profitable, and professionally managed markets that cultivate thriving local food communities, expand access to fresh and culturally relevant foods, support the success of local food producers, and create opportunities for all people, regardless of ethnicity, age, gender identity, or economic standing.
